Last weekend my wife and I had the opportunity to head to Houston for the Rupture Fightwear Jiu-Jitsu Championship, put on by Fight to Win and the WGC. You can't see it in the picture below, but the venue was pretty large and there was a lot to look at throughout the day.
We set up shop next to the several t-shirt booths and had a clear view of the vendors who'd sponsored the event (and a tiny glimpse of the mats). It was good to see what people were purchasing and generally taking an interest in. Needless to say, our table of 2.5 different shirts, stickers, and gi patches (all for sale on this site) was dwarfed by most of the booths there. It's good to see people taking such an active interest in the sport.
The day went by really quickly and from what I could hear / see, it was being run really efficiently. It looked like around 6-8 mats were running at once. I was only able to sneak off and watch a handful of matches before my conscience got the better of me and reminded me that my wife was probably bored to death when she wasn't talking to folks.
Speaking of which, it was great to get cards out and meet people. We even had a several people stop by thinking we were part of the event. This has me thinking that it might be nice to try and find a way to link Masters Division more directly to the masters divisions of future grappling & BJJ events somehow.
All-in-all it turned out to be a fun day and very well worth the drive. I look forward to talking to many of you in person again soon.
And a special thanks to Seth and Brett for letting us be there!
